Josh and the Learn&Groove table

Here's Josh pushing the Learn&Groove table across the room (well-the video only catches a few steps... it took me a minute to get my phone-video going) and talking/singing along with it-

Enjoy!

Jake's 2 year update

Okay, so just about a month has passed since Jake's birthday and I still haven't posted anything. I do keep intending to update, but somehow the blog has taken a back seat these days... Anyway, I'm here now...

We had a great birthday party at Menlo Park Gymnastics--everyone seemed to enjoy the running, jumping, climbing and trapeze-swinging--especially given that it was a cold and rainy day. Afterwards, we convened back at our house for pizza and cake (and a bit more playing) until naptime. Not to be ignored, Josh took his first real crawling steps later that day, and has been on the move ever since!

Jake has jumped into the twos with both feet. Everything is an exciting discovery, whether he finds a rock on the ground or spies a number on a mailbox. He would choose to be outside all the time if he could (his favorites are the park, taking a walk around the neighborhood, writing with sidewalk chalk on the driveway, or just hanging out in the backyard) and he loves running--his latest main-interest at the park is running laps around the big play structure! (I'm pretty sure he gets this from his dad's side.) He also really loves to go over to Menlo Atherton high school, where he plays on the track and the football field (see the video below...).

When he's inside, Jake can most often be found building with his duplo blocks, playing with his pretend food, or doing anything having to do with letters or numbers. He watches the digital clock in the living room, excitedly waiting for the numbers to change; plays with the magnetic letters on the fridge endlessly; and sits by himself leafing through books on his red chair while pointing to letters and words. He has a handful of words he can read and write (either with the magnetic letters or by dictating), and loves counting anything he can put his hands on.

Just as he's always been, two year old Jake is still long and lean--as of his recent check up he's just over 3 feet tall and weighs 28 pounds. He's got almost all of his teeth (he's still missing a couple molars, I think), and a thick full head of hair. He sleeps a solid 11-ish hours (in bed at 7:30pm, usually alseep by 8:30), and [thankfully] still naps a good 2-3 hour chunk most afternoons. Overall, he's doing great!

Oh the excitement!

We just got home from a walk around the neighborhood. It seems that letter-and-number-obsessed-Jake has now discovered license plates (in addition to the numbers and names on the houses and mailboxes to be read and looked at in detail!) It is quite amazing to see the world through a 2 year old's eyes...
